Celebrating Excellence: Four CODEWA Scholars Achieve Top National Results

Community Development Watch (CODEWA) is proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone in our Student Scholarship Program. In July 2024, all four of our long-term scholarship beneficiaries—Daniel, Sada, Ramadhani, and Alfred—graduated from high school with outstanding Division One and Division Two results, placing them among Tanzania’s highest-performing graduates. Their achievements are a testament to resilience, determination, and the transformative power of sustained support.

A Journey of Growth, Resilience, and Determination
Each scholar’s journey reflects immense personal challenges, perseverance, and the life-changing impact of community support:

• Daniel is the eldest of four siblings. Orphaned of parental care at a young age and facing severe financial hardship, Daniel began school late at age nine. When his grandmother fell ill, he paused his studies, only to resume with CODEWA’s full support. Today, Daniel has graduated high school with excellent results and is set to pursue BSc Economics – Population and Development at Mzumbe University, a dream made possible through scholarship support and mentorship.

• Sada Kambona, the eldest of four daughters, faced extreme poverty during secondary school. She often attended classes hungry and without proper school supplies, causing feelings of isolation and despair. Through CODEWA’s intervention—including educational sponsorship, mentorship, and psychosocial support—Sada regained confidence and excelled academically. She now begins her Bachelor of Human Resource Management at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA).

• Ramadhani lost both parents and lived under the care of his elderly grandmother, relying on occasional assistance from relatives. Despite these challenges, he was determined to pursue education. CODEWA provided full sponsorship and guidance, enabling him to graduate high school with top results and secure admission to study Bachelor of Business Administration, ensuring a brighter future for him and his family.

• Alfred Selestian grew up in a single-parent household and initially financed his education by sewing soccer balls. Financial hardships caused academic struggles, but after being enrolled in CODEWA’s program, he regained focus and excelled in his studies. Alfred now embarks on a Bachelor in Procurement and Supply Chain Management at Mzumbe University, a dream achieved through resilience and consistent support.

Opening Doors to Higher Education
These exceptional results mark a transformative shift not only for the students but also for their families and communities. Each achievement represents the realization of dreams that were once almost impossible due to financial and social barriers. From potential community leaders to future innovators and professionals, these scholars exemplify what is possible when young people are given access to education, mentorship, and opportunity.
