Donation Terms and Donor Rights

Every donation entrusted to Community Development Watch (CODEWA) is treated as a sacred responsibility. We exist because generous people around the world believe that a child's potential should never be limited by the circumstances of their birth.

These terms are not legal small print. They are our commitment to you.

1. Who We Are

Community Development Watch (CODEWA) is a non-governmental organisation registered in the United Republic of Tanzania (Reg. No. 00NGO/R1/00579, issued 14 January 2026, valid for ten years) under the NGO Act No. 24 of 2002. We are governed by an independent Board of Directors, audited annually by an independent registered auditor, and regulated by the Tanzania NGO Coordination Board. Our registered office is at Bonde Buildings, Zimamoto Street, Tabora, Tanzania.

2. Acceptance of Donations

CODEWA welcomes gifts of any amount from individuals, organisations, foundations, and corporate partners worldwide. All donations are accepted at the discretion of CODEWA's leadership and must be consistent with our mission, values, and the laws of Tanzania. CODEWA reserves the right to decline any gift that would compromise our independence, conflict with our values, create undue legal obligations, or cannot be applied in alignment with our stated charitable purposes.

3. How Your Donation Is Used

Your donation funds the direct delivery of CODEWA's programmes across six pillars: Holistic Education, Health and Dignity, Mentorship and Inspiration, Adolescent and Youth Empowerment, Climate Action, and Digital Skills and Empowerment. In the financial year ending December 2025, 82.7% of CODEWA's total expenditure went directly to programme delivery, independently verified by Bugula Auditors and Tax Consultants (NBAA Reg. PF 258).

4. Restricted and Directed Gifts

If you choose to direct your donation to a specific programme or campaign, CODEWA will honour your intent and apply your gift exclusively to that purpose. Where a specific programme is discontinued, fully funded, or cannot be implemented as originally described, CODEWA will contact you to agree on an appropriate alternative use before redirecting your gift.

5. Recurring Donations

Monthly and recurring donations may be cancelled at any time with no penalty, no minimum notice period, and no questions asked. To cancel or amend a recurring donation, contact us at donation@codewatz.org or call +255 684 373 797. We will process your request within 5 business days and confirm by email.

6. Refund Policy

CODEWA understands that errors happen. If you made a donation in error, donated an unintended amount, or have a genuine concern about your contribution, please contact us at donation@codewatz.org or info@codewatz.org within 30 days of your donation. We will review your request promptly and, where appropriate, process a full refund. Refunds are returned to the original payment method and may take 5 to 10 business days depending on your bank or card provider.

7. Receipts and Acknowledgements

You will receive an automatic email confirmation immediately after every donation. If you require a formal signed acknowledgement letter for institutional, tax, or personal records, email donation@codewatz.org or info@codewatz.org with your donation details and we will issue one within 48 hours. Annual donation summaries are available on request.

8. Tax Deductibility

CODEWA is registered under Tanzanian law. The tax treatment of your donation depends on your country of residence and its policies on gifts to foreign nonprofits. We encourage you to seek guidance from your own tax adviser. Donors based in France may benefit from giving through Association CODEWA France, our registered French sister organisation. 9. Donor Privacy and Data Protection

CODEWA respects your privacy completely. Your personal information is collected solely to process your donation, issue your receipt, and communicate with you about our work. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for commercial purposes. If you wish to remain anonymous, your identity will be known only to the staff members directly responsible for financial management. You may request to be removed from our communications at any time by emailing donation@codewatz.org or info@codewatz.org. We will action your request within 5 business days.

10. Dedicated and Memorial Gifts

Donations made in honour of or in memory of a loved one will be treated with the care and dignity they deserve. Your dedication will be recorded and the gift applied to the programme you specify. If you would like a personalised acknowledgement card or letter for the person being honoured, contact us after donating and we will prepare one with pleasure.

11. Employer Matching

If your employer operates a workplace giving or donation matching programme, CODEWA is registered on Benevity and eligible for employer-matched donations. Contact your HR or CSR team to check whether your gift can be matched. A matched donation doubles or triples your impact at no extra cost to you.

12. No Finder's Fees

CODEWA does not compensate any individual, agent, or organisation through commissions, finder's fees, or any other financial arrangement for directing donations or donors to CODEWA. Every gift reaches us without deduction for solicitation costs.

13. Governance and Financial Accountability

CODEWA maintains independently audited annual accounts submitted to the Tanzania NGO Coordination Board in compliance with the NGO Act No. 24 of 2002. Our financial statements, governance policies, Board Charter, Risk Register, and Monitoring and Evaluation Framework are available on request. We welcome donor enquiries about our finances without reservation.

14. Your Rights as a Donor

At CODEWA, every donor has the right to:

•Know how their donation will be used before giving
•Receive a prompt, accurate acknowledgement of every gift
•Have their personal information handled with complete confidentiality
•Direct their gift to a specific programme and have that intent honoured
•Ask any question about CODEWA's mission, governance, or finances and receive a prompt, honest answer
•Request a refund within 30 days if a donation was made in error
•Cancel a recurring donation at any time without penalty
•Remain anonymous if they choose
•Be treated with dignity, gratitude, and respect at every interaction

These rights are not conditional. They apply to every donor, every gift, every time. If you ever feel these rights have not been upheld, we want to know. Contact info@codewatz.org and our Executive Secretary will respond personally within 24 hours.
