CODEWA Empowers Students at Maximilian College During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, CODEWA—together with the Tabora Municipal Council (through the Mpera Ward Executive Office) and local partners including Tabora Integrated Women Organization (TIWO), Be Enlightened Foundation, and KKT—conducted an impactful awareness and empowerment session at Maximilian College, Tabora.

More than 200 students participated in interactive discussions on:

  • Understanding gender-based violence (GBV)
  • Online harassment and digital safety
  • Reporting pathways and accessing support services
  • Their role as young leaders in promoting equality and respect

This year’s theme, “Joining Forces to End Online Gender-Based Violence,” resonates deeply with CODEWA’s mission to protect young people, strengthen digital literacy, and promote safer, more inclusive communities. As online violence continues to rise, empowering youth with the right knowledge and tools has become more critical than ever.

Through real-life stories, group reflections, and practical guidance, students gained the confidence to recognize GBV, challenge harmful norms, and advocate for safe online behavior. Many expressed a renewed commitment to become positive digital ambassadors—spreading awareness within their schools, homes, and communities.

At CODEWA, we believe that change begins with young people. By equipping them with awareness, skills, and platforms to speak out, we help shape a generation that actively rejects violence in all its forms and works towards equality and dignity for all.

We extend our appreciation to all partners for their dedication and collaboration. Together, we are building a safer, more informed, and more empowered future for the children and youth of Tabora.
