We Were That Child. Now We Act.
CODEWA was born from lived experience. Our founder grew up in a small village, raised by a single mother with no income. Hunger was a daily reality. Education felt like a distant dream. A teacher who believed in him changed everything — and that moment became the mission.
Today, CODEWA works across five interlocking programme areas in Tabora Region — one of Tanzania’s most educationally underserved areas. We do not choose one barrier to address and ignore the rest. We work holistically, because poverty is holistic, and the children we serve deserve nothing less than a complete response.

Independent Board of Directors
CODEWA is governed by a seven-member independent Board meeting twice yearly — including international economists and local community leaders — providing full strategic oversight of all programmes.
Evidence-Based Programming
Every programme is grounded in research. Our Mentorship and Inspiration Seminars were designed in partnership with an economist from UNIDO following a formal 2018 fieldwork study on invisible barriers to learning.
Monitored and Reported
All programme outcomes are tracked through internal monitoring systems and partner school records. Annual reports and documents are publicly available on our reports page.
Community Ownership by Design
We never drop resources and leave. From bicycle retention agreements to student-owned Climate Guardian Clubs, every programme is designed for community ownership long after our involvement ends.

CODEWA is fully registered with the Tanzanian government under Reg. No. 00NGO/R1/00579. We comply with all national NGO reporting requirements and maintain transparent financial records.
