Don’t Let Poverty Write Their Story.

Every Child Deserves
a Chance to Learn,
to Heal, and to Lead.

CODEWA is a community-led organisation working with vulnerable children and youth in Tabora, Tanzania. We address education, health, mentorship, digital skills, and climate action together — because no child should be supported partially when they need support fully.

Registered NGO  ·  Reg. No. 00NGO/R1/00579  ·  Operating since 2015

Why CODEWA Exists

We Were That Child. Now We Act.

CODEWA was born from lived experience. Our founder grew up in a small village, raised by a single mother with no income. Hunger was a daily reality. Education felt like a distant dream. A teacher who believed in him changed everything — and that moment became the mission.

Today, CODEWA works across five interlocking programme areas in Tabora Region — one of Tanzania’s most educationally underserved areas. We do not choose one barrier to address and ignore the rest. We work holistically, because poverty is holistic, and the children we serve deserve nothing less than a complete response.

“I will only be satisfied when I see these children happy and able to support their communities. This is my responsibility and the meaning I give to my life.

Why CODEWA

Radical Accountability. Measurable Impact. Community Ownership.

Trust is the foundation of every gift. CODEWA is a registered Tanzanian NGO operating under robust governance, transparent financial management, and a board of independent directors. Here is what that means for your donation.

🏛️

Independent Board of Directors

CODEWA is governed by a seven-member independent Board meeting twice yearly — including international economists and local community leaders — providing full strategic oversight of all programmes.

📊

Evidence-Based Programming

Every programme is grounded in research. Our Mentorship and Inspiration Seminars were designed in partnership with an economist from UNIDO following a formal 2018 fieldwork study on invisible barriers to learning.

📋

Monitored and Reported

All programme outcomes are tracked through internal monitoring systems and partner school records. Annual reports and documents are publicly available on our reports page.

🤝

Community Ownership by Design

We never drop resources and leave. From bicycle retention agreements to student-owned Climate Guardian Clubs, every programme is designed for community ownership long after our involvement ends.

🔒

Registered and Compliant

CODEWA is fully registered with the Tanzanian government under Reg. No. 00NGO/R1/00579. We comply with all national NGO reporting requirements and maintain transparent financial records.

🌍

Locally Led, Globally Aligned

CODEWA is led by a founder who grew up in the communities we serve. Our work aligns with seven United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — grounding local action in global accountability.

📜

Notre engagement envers vous

CODEWA operates with radical accountability, financial integrity, community collaboration, and measurable impact at the centre of every decision. We provide measurable data so you see exactly how your trust creates change — and we publish our reports publicly so anyone can verify our work.

How Change Happens

One Child. One Community. One Generation.

CODEWA’s theory of change is simple. When a vulnerable child receives the right support across health, education, mentorship, and skills — they do not just survive. They become the role model for the next child in line.

🧱

Remove the Barriers

School kits, bicycles, health cards, and MHM kits eliminate the material and physical obstacles that keep children out of school.

🧠

Rebuild the Belief

Resilience Circles, Inspiration Seminars, digital skills, and mentorship address the invisible barriers — trauma, low self-esteem, and the belief that success is for someone else.

🌱

The Cycle Breaks

A child who graduates, earns, leads, and returns as a mentor breaks the generational cycle — not just for themselves, but for every child watching them succeed.

“Before CODEWA, school was just a chore. After the seminars, I realised that my background was not a cage — it was a starting line. Now, I am heading to University.”
Sada Kambona  ·  2nd Year Bachelor’s Student  ·  CODEWA Fellow
“Before I received my bicycle, I missed school two or three days every week because I was too tired to walk. My teacher thought I was lazy. Now I arrive before anyone else. Last term I was third in my class.”
Amina (name changed)  ·  CODEWA Bicycle Beneficiary, Tabora 2023

Every Child in Tabora
Is Waiting for Someone
to Decide They Matter.

You do not need to choose the perfect programme. You do not need to give a large amount. You need only to decide that a child in Tabora deserves the same chance that circumstances denied them — and that you are the person who is going to do something about it.

Give to CODEWA’s general fund and trust us to direct your gift where the need is greatest. Or give to a specific programme below and know exactly which child your donation reaches, and how.
