Visiting a Future Community Leader: CODEWA Supports Scholar Said Salum

Last week, CODEWA’s Founder and Executive Secretary, Mr. Sadath A. Mwamsema, visited Said Salum, one of our outstanding scholarship recipients. Said is in his final year pursuing a Diploma in Community Development, and his journey is a remarkable example of resilience, determination, and the transformative power of support.

Said’s Journey: From Adversity to Opportunity

Said, the ninth of eleven children, was the only child in his family to complete primary school. In his rural village, children are often expected to contribute to farming and herding rather than continue their education. When his family stopped supporting him, his teachers recognized his potential. They pooled resources to cover his school needs, helping him complete primary education in 2017.

Despite being selected for secondary school in 2018, lack of family support nearly derailed his education. Fortunately, CODEWA intervened, providing sponsorship, mentorship, and psychological support. With this assistance, Said not only resumed his studies but excelled, completing secondary school and earning admission to the Institute of Rural Development and Planning (IRDP) for a certificate, followed by a diploma program in 2023.

The Impact of Mentorship and Support
During the visit, Mr. Sadath discussed Said’s studies, aspirations, and long-term goals. Seeing his determination and growth firsthand reinforced CODEWA’s belief in the power of consistent mentorship, education, and donor support. Said’s progress illustrates how targeted interventions can help youth overcome societal barriers, build confidence, and pursue meaningful careers that benefit their communities.

Perspectives d’Avenir
Said’s story is far from unique—countless young people face similar challenges. With continued support from donors, mentors, and partners, CODEWA aims to empower more youth like Said to achieve their dreams and contribute positively to society.

Your support transforms lives. Help more scholars like Said access education, mentorship, and the tools they need to succeed.
