Most schools rely entirely on purchased food, missing key opportunities to enhance health, reduce costs, and provide practical environmental education. Creating a school-based food system not only strengthens nutrition but also promotes hands-on learning and environmental responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Go Green Project recognized this opportunity and built a learning model rooted in sustainability\u2014and designed to feed both minds and bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Students Grew Their First School Harvest<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through CODEWA\u2019s support and the dedicated guidance of teachers, students planted a variety of local and improved vegetables. They nurtured crops such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spinach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sukuma wiki<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chinese cabbage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Traditional green vegetables<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The garden became a learning ground where students practiced the full cycle of agriculture\u2014from preparing soil to watering, weeding, mulching, and finally harvesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the first vegetables were ready, the sense of achievement was unmistakable. Students held their bundles of greens with pride, celebrating not just a harvest, but the success of teamwork and persistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Student\u2019s Reflection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe we grew this ourselves,\u201d said one student, beaming as she held fresh greens in her hands. \u201cI want to start a garden at home too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moments like this highlight the ripple effect of sustainable learning\u2014skills learned at school extend into homes and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What This Harvest Achieved<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The vegetable harvest proved the strength of the Go Green Project by delivering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Practical agricultural skills for more than 200 students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased student motivation, responsibility, and pride<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to fresh vegetables for school use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A replicable model for other schools in Tanzania<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where Things Stand Now<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The school garden continues to produce vegetables throughout the term. The Green School Club is expanding planting beds and planning new varieties for the next season\u2014an encouraging sign of sustainability and student leadership where majority of students are adopting the same to their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Support the Movement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Join CODEWA as we work to establish more school gardens that feed, educate, and empower children across Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reflection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The harvest is more than just food\u2014it is a powerful testimony to what young people can achieve when given knowledge, tools, and an opportunity to grow.
