Giving Children a Voice: CODEWA’s Four-Week Storytelling Workshop Series

In February 2021, CODEWA launched a transformative four-week Storytelling Workshop series for children and youth in Tabora. Across the month, participants explored the power of storytelling to express themselves, share their experiences, and develop essential communication and life skills.

A Month of Growth and Learning
Throughout the four weeks, the workshops offered children opportunities to:

  • Build confidence in public speaking and self-expression
  • Develop listening, collaboration, and empathy skills
  • Foster creativity and imagination through narrative exercises
  • Understand the value of cultural and personal stories in shaping identity

Each week focused on different aspects of storytelling, gradually helping participants gain mastery over their narratives while learning to engage and inspire others.

Impact Reflected in Participant Voices
Feedback from the young participants illustrates the workshops’ transformative impact:

  • “I am happy to be part of this program as now I can at least stand in front of people and share my story with confidence,” – Sada Kambona
  • “This training has changed my perception about stories and their values in our lives,” – Ramadhan Nsindi
  • “Now I understand the root of my culture through the narrated stories,” – Saidy Salum
  • “The cooperation with my fellows has increased,” – Magreth
  • “The workshops have encouraged the use of imagination and creativity in me,” – Daniel Said
  • “This four-week training has enhanced my listening skills,” – Kelvin Okinyi
  • “Now I know how to share my personal experiences in a way that can inspire others,” – Salma Idd
  • “It has increased my willingness to communicate thoughts and feelings,” – Amini Salum
  • “My verbal proficiency has increased,” – Alfred

These reflections show that the workshops not only developed technical storytelling skills but also nurtured confidence, teamwork, and self-expression.

Why Storytelling Matters
Storytelling is a critical life skill. It empowers children to articulate their thoughts, understand themselves, and connect meaningfully with others. Through these workshops, CODEWA helps children gain resilience, creativity, and confidence—skills that will serve them in school, their communities, and later in life.

Perspectives d’Avenir
CODEWA remains committed to nurturing the voices of children and youth, providing platforms where they can express themselves, learn, and grow. By supporting programs like this, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to tell their story, inspire others, and reach their full potential.
