CODEWA Officially Participates in the 2025 General Elections as Accredited Election Observer

Community Development Watch (CODEWA) is proud to announce its successful participation as an accredited civil society election observer in the 2025 General Elections of the United Republic of Tanzania.

In July 2025, CODEWA received official accreditation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to observe the 2025 General Elections for the positions of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Members of Parliament, and Councilors. This accreditation marked a significant milestone in the organization’s continued commitment to promoting good governance, democratic participation, and civic accountability.

Following the official approval, CODEWA deployed trained observers to participate in the election observation process within Tabora Municipal Council, specifically in Gongoni and Kanyenye Wards. The accreditation allowed CODEWA to legally and independently observe the electoral process in accordance with the laws and regulations governing election observation in Tanzania.

CODEWA received official orientation and training facilitated by the Commission to prepare its observers for the assignment. The organization then began its observation mission from the earliest stages of the electoral process, including the training of election officials, the distribution of election materials, and the setup of polling stations. CODEWA’s accredited observers further participated in observing the voting process on election day, the counting of votes, and the official announcement of election results within the designated areas of observation.

Participation in the 2025 General Elections as an observer reflects CODEWA’s growing institutional capacity and recognition at the national level as a credible civil society organization working in the governance and democracy space. It also demonstrates the trust placed in CODEWA by national electoral authorities to contribute constructively to Tanzania’s democratic systems and processes.

As an organization, CODEWA believes that civil society participation in elections is essential for strengthening transparency, accountability, and citizen confidence in democratic institutions. Election observation contributes to the integrity of the democratic process while reinforcing public trust in governance structures and national leadership.

CODEWA’s participation in the 2025 General Elections as an accredited observer marks another important step in its ongoing contribution to Tanzania’s democratic development. This engagement reflects the organization’s dedication to upholding democratic values, transparency, and accountable governance through lawful and constructive civic participation. As CODEWA continues to grow institutionally, experiences gained from national assignments such as this will further strengthen its programming in governance, human rights, civic education, and community empowerment. The organization remains committed to working with public institutions, development partners, and citizens to promote inclusive and participatory democracy across Tanzania.

“Being entrusted by the Independent National Electoral Commission to participate as accredited election observers in the 2025 General Elections is a great honor and responsibility for CODEWA. This opportunity affirms our institutional credibility and strengthens our resolve to continue promoting good governance, democratic values, and active citizen participation in Tanzania,” said Fredrick Sunday, Education Lead, Community Development Watch (CODEWA)
