Building Responsible and Resilient Youth: CODEWA’s Mentorship & Inspiration Seminars (Feb–Mar 2021)

Between February and March 2021, CODEWA’s mentorship and inspiration seminars guided children in Tabora to embrace accountability, develop personal agency, and build the resilience needed to thrive in school, friendships, and life.

Between February and March 2021, CODEWA conducted a series of transformative Mentorship and Inspiration seminars for children in Tabora. These workshops focused on helping young participants develop resilience, personal responsibility, and the skills to navigate adolescence confidently. Through interactive sessions, practical exercises, and reflective discussions, our children learned to make better choices, take ownership of their actions, and understand the importance of personal agency.

Week 1: Accepting Responsibility (Feb 20, 2021)

Children at this age often shift blame for their mistakes, whether in school or daily life. Our first session introduced the concept of accountability and taught participants the value of owning their actions. By helping children recognize the consequences of their decisions, we set the foundation for stronger self-confidence and personal growth.

Week 2: Personal Agency (Feb 28, 2021)

In week two, we explored the concept of agency—the capacity to act intentionally and take charge of one’s own life. Children engaged in activities designed to help them discover their choices and understand that they can be active agents in shaping their futures. As one participant, Sifa Alex, shared:
“From today I am the one who’s in charge of my life.”

Week 3: Applying Responsibility (Mar 7, 2021)

The final week of the Accepting Responsibility workshop encouraged children to integrate these lessons into their daily lives. Participants reflected on how taking responsibility strengthens trust, builds problem-solving skills, and improves relationships. Some of their feedback included:

  • “Learning from my mistakes is the biggest lesson I picked from the workshop.” – Wema Javan
  • “I am a problem solver.” – Alarm Gidion
  • “My relationship with my fellow kids has improved.” – Marry Joseph

By the end of the three weeks, children had gained a deeper understanding of accountability, resilience, and the power of making intentional, responsible choices.

Mentorship & Inspiration Needs Assessment (Mar 30, 2021)

Following the workshops, we conducted a Mentorship & Inspiration Needs Assessment to ensure our programs address the real priorities of children. Participants identified:

  1. Resilience: Learning to bounce back from setbacks positively.
  2. Adolescent Development and Relationships: Guidance to navigate friendships and challenges during adolescence.

This feedback ensures that CODEWA’s programs are responsive, impactful, and designed to produce sustainable positive outcomes for children.
